The Shasta Library Foundation is a California non-profit corporation whose purpose is the development and preservation of a quality, state-of-the-art library system for the citizens of Shasta County. The purpose of its fundraising efforts is to build an endowment sufficient to meet the long-term, multi-generational needs of the Shasta Public Libraries system.
The Shasta Library Foundation will raise funds beyond those available through state and local governmental sources to enhance the public library as a community resource by funding special projects and by building an endowment for the support of the Shasta Public Libraries.
We have come a long way in improving library services in Shasta County but we are not at the end of the road. We need a larger collection for our population, we need literacy services for people of all ages, we need to provide technology for those who can’t afford it at home, and we need to provide the access to information that enriches all of our lives.
Half of the libraries in California spend over $31 per capita; at $10 per capita, our local government can only provide funding that is barely adequate to support basic library services. As the demand for library services continues to grow due to increased usage and population growth, our ability to provide will be challenged even more.
Since government funding isn’t likely to improve in the foreseeable future, we believe it will take the efforts of the public and private sectors working together to ensure our library remains a vibrant and vital resource.
